SMC - Single Mom Care

Safeguarding

SMC's commitment to keeping mothers, children, volunteers and staff safe, and how to raise a concern.

Everyone who takes part in SMC's work has the right to be safe and treated with respect. Safeguarding is the responsibility of every SMC staff member and volunteer.

In an emergency

If you or a child are in immediate danger, contact the local emergency services first. This website and its messages are not monitored around the clock.

Our commitments

  • We put the safety and wellbeing of mothers and children first in every decision.
  • We treat every person with dignity, without judgment or discrimination.
  • We keep personal information confidential and share it only when needed to keep someone safe or when the law requires it.
  • We never use a mother's or child's story, photo or details without consent.

What we expect from our team and volunteers

  • Respectful, professional behavior at all times, online and in person.
  • No exploitation or abuse of any kind, and no request for anything in return for SMC's help.
  • Contact with mothers and children only through SMC activities and channels.
  • Reporting any concern promptly, even when unsure.

How to raise a concern

  • Mothers: tell us through a support request in your account, or through the contact page using the topic "Asking for support".
  • Anyone else: write to us through the contact page. Describe what happened, when, and who was involved, as far as you can.

Every concern is taken seriously, handled confidentially and followed up by the responsible SMC staff.
