Accountability
Governance and accountability
Families and donors trust SMC with their money and their stories. This is how we are run and held to account.
How we protect money
Every expense is approved by a second person. Nobody can approve their own spending.
A donation only counts once someone other than the person who recorded it confirms the money arrived.
Every change to money, accounts and case files is written to a permanent audit log: who, what and when. The log can never be edited or deleted, and corrections keep the previous values.
Each year we publish how much we received and how it was spent, by campaign, program and kind of cost.
How we protect the people we serve
A mother’s file, documents and support requests are seen only by the staff who handle them.
Opening a mother’s file or a support case is recorded with the name of the person who opened it.
Staff accounts can add two-step verification, and each role sees only the pages it needs.
Donors are never named in public, and personal details are never sent to error monitoring.
